High Yewdale, Cumbria is close to the village of Coniston and Brantwood, home of artist John Ruskin from 1872 until his death in 1900. The stream in the foreground is Tom Gill. It drains the scenic Tarn Hows and cascades down to Glen Mary bridge, named by Ruskin who felt that Tom Gill required a more picturesque name. The Ruskin Museum in Coniston tells the story of Coniston from the Stone Age onwards and provides an intro- duction to Conistonīs two blue-eyed boys, John Ruskin and Donald Campbell, who broke seven world records, four on Coniston Water. Author Beatrix Potter left her High Yewdale Farm to the National Trust when she died. Landranger Grid Reference SD317997
