Saddleworth Moor is in the Pennine hills of northern England, between Holmfirth and Greenfield, Greater Manchester. The dark millstone grit scenery is typical of the West Yorkshire and East Lancashire Pennines. Saddleworth moor became infamous as the burial site of a number of the victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. As a result, the crimes were dubbed the 'Moors Murders'. The M62 (Britain's highest motorway) crosses the Pennines north of nearby Oldham. Yeoman Hey Reservoir (see picture) was constructed in 1880 and is the oldest of four reservoirs in the area. At the time of its construction Chew was the highest reservoir in Britain at 1600 feet above sea level. Landranger Grid Reference SE023050
