Sunday 2nd March 2008 is Mothering Sunday, a day in Britain when children give presents, flowers (often daffodils), and home-made cards to their mothers. Mothering Sunday is always the fourth Sunday in Lent, so the date is determined by the Easter festival. Mothering Sunday is a centuries old religious tradition when its was considered important for people to return to their home or mother church once a year. The return to the mother church became an occasion for family reunions when children, often as young as ten, who were working away in service, returned home. On the way they would pick wild flowers to take to church or to give to their mother. Landranger Grid Reference NY400199
