The Community Leisure Association
of Whitworth (C.L.A.W.)
The Community Leisure Association of Whitworth's
initial aim "was to obtain grants, funds, donations, and
other assistance and to apply these funds to the repair and improvement
of Whitworth Swimming Pool to enable it to be re-opened."
Thanks to their efforts and those of many like minded
volunteers the swimming pool re-opened in June 2003 and the replacement
Civic Hall (Riverside) opened on 28th October 2006. Having achieved
their objective C.L.A.W. now aim "to provide
security to the future of the pool and the Civic Hall, whilst ensuring
that the best interests of the community are maintained."

The Stoneyroyd Action Group (S.A.G.)
Rochdale based Green Corns covertly purchased a private dwelling on Stoneyroyd, Whitworth for use as residential care home for troubled children and teenagers. Green Corns has secretly purchased a number of other private homes in the Rochdale area and in the Midlands to further expand the company.
Concerns about problems in other areas led to the formation of
the Stoneyroyd Action Group. Representatives from Green Corns declined
to meet members of S.A.G. to discuss residents' issues, which simply
heightened their concerns.

Action Group by visiting the
S.A.G. website.
Read these recent comments about Green Corns from local newspapers:- the Heywood Advertiser the Middleton Guardian, and the Rochdale Observer.
