Pond materials

Types of construction:- There are two main materials used for the construction of ponds
(1) a flexible liner or (2) a rigid pre-formed shell.

Pre-formed fibreglass ponds may seem easier, but, you still have to dig the hole! and it needs to be dug with more care as you have to support the structure and the weight of water when your pond is full. This could be considerable, even for a small pond.

Pre-formed ponds are much more expensive than a flexible liner. They only come in limited designs and appear much smaller when you get them home.

For a wildlife pond, a good flexible liner means that you dictate the final shape and depths.
